by Steve Brown
A Colorado native based in Lakewood, Steve Brown has been working in metal art and sculpture for several years. His work reflects realistic representations of nature. The predominance of fish subjects in his work reflects his interests in scuba diving and fly fishing which often strikes a chord with like minded people.
The process for creating pieces involves tracing photos of natural subjects and transferring them to lightweight sheet metal. The designs are then cut out with an oxy-acetylene torch which leaves an irregular, natural outline. The silver, blue, and rust finishes imitate natural colors while relating the character of the metal material.
Steve sells his art at various art festivals throughout the year. He also welcomes commissions for custom designs and subjects. Recently he was commissioned to fabricate a large scale wall reefscape for a client in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
